New Delhi. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR against Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited in a case of alleged bribery. It is noteworthy that the company had purchased electoral bonds worth Rs 966 crore and it is the second largest buyer of these bonds.
An alleged bribe of about Rs 78 lakh was paid in clearing the bills of Megha Engineering worth Rs 174 crore for works related to the Jagdalpur Integrated Steel Plant, officials said on Saturday. Eight officials of NISP and NMDC and two officials of MECON have also been named for allegedly taking bribes.
According to the data released by the Election Commission on March 21, Megha Engineering was the second largest buyer of electoral bonds and had donated the highest amount of about Rs 586 crore to the BJP.
The company donated Rs 195 crore to BRS, Rs 85 crore to DMK and Rs 37 crore to YSRCP. TDP got around Rs 25 crore from the company, while Congress got Rs 17 crore.
