The first day of the Iconic Jaipur Literature Festival was full of sessions, speakers on various topics. Journalist and Editor Lindsey Perrier in a session on the JCB Prize for Literature series; writer Rijula Das; Writer Karuna Ezra Parikh in conversation with writer and civil servant Shabir Ahmed Mir. During the session, the speakers on the panel shared the thrill of their debut novel.
Yoga Instructor Sumit Thalwal started the second day with Pranayama. Sumit, while explaining the importance of Pranayama, Anulom-Anilom, got the audience present in the lawn to chant Om along with some breathing postures. Pranayama’s energy and freshness were further enriched by ‘Pratah Sangeet’. Classical singer Aastha Goswami enthralled the audience with her combination of tabla and harmonium. These morning performances were the perfect start to the second day of the world’s biggest literary festival.

• National Award winning actor, Manoj Bajpayee participated in ‘Pure Evil: The Bad Man of Bollywood’, a session organized at the 15th edition of Jaipur Literature Festival. Title of the session, taken from the book by Balaji Vitthal. Balaji’s other book, RD Burman: The Man, has been awarded the Music National Award. In the session, writer and journalist, Pragya Tiwari while talking to Balaji and Manoj spoke extensively on the villains of English cinema. Balaji, in his book, presented a different perspective on the villains and their circumstances in the cinema of every era. Talking about the popular character he played, Manoj said that Bhikhu Mahatre of ‘Satya’ was not a traditional villain. He was a very lovely person, who was like this because of compulsions. Bhikhu brought up the ‘grey shade’ in films, where neither the hero was a doodh ka dhula nor the hero was a very bad person. Manoj talked about the depth and many layers of his character through fine films like ‘Aks’, ‘Raajneeti’, ‘Gangster of Wasseypur’.
