New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed happiness over the agreement signed between the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of AYUSH for the establishment of a Global Center for Traditional Medicine in Gujarat, saying that it is a matter of pride for the country. .
The Prime Minister expressed hope that this center will contribute to making the earth healthier and harnessing the rich traditional medical methods of the country for global interest.
Replying to the tweets of the Ministry of AYUSH and WHO, Prime Minister Modi said, India is very honored to establish the state-of-the-art WHO Global Center for Traditional Medicine. This center will contribute towards building a healthier planet and harnessing our rich traditional methods for the global benefit.
In another tweet, he said, India’s traditional medicines and health methods are very popular globally. This WHO center will go a long way towards spreading happiness in our society.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted, “Wellness of the world through India’s knowledge. Ayurveda, the traditional medicine system of India, has made its own identity in the world. This center will be of great benefit to the global community and will lead to the expansion of traditional medicine.”
It is worth noting that only last month, the Union Cabinet had approved the establishment of this center.
The central government will invest $250 million on this center. The primary objective of this center is to harness the potential of traditional medicine from around the world through modern science and technology, and to improve the overall health of all communities around the world.
The agreement was signed on 25 March in Geneva by Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH and Dr. Tredos Aidan Ghebreyesus, Director General, WHO.
Underlining the importance of the initiative of the Government of India, WHO Director General Dr. Tredos Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that harnessing the potential of traditional medicine by drawing on modern science and principles of equity and sustainability will prove to be a revolutionary change in health in the 21st century.
GCTM will be the first and only global center (office) for traditional medicine worldwide. It will focus on building solid foundation evidence for policies and standards on traditional medicine practices and products.
The foundation stone of this center will be laid on April 21, 2022 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
