London. European Union (EU) countries and lawmakers have reached an agreement on an unprecedented law to curb Alphabet’s market dominance of big tech companies like Google, Meta, Amazon and Apple. European Union countries and lawmakers on Thursday agreed on a law to curb the dominance of big tech companies, Xinhua news agency reported.
The law, called the Digital Markets Act (DMA), aims to prevent the biggest tech platforms from using their interlocking services and enough resources to give new entrants a better chance of surviving against the world’s powerful tech giants.
“And with tonight’s agreement it will soon become a real one. Because no one has to be ‘too big to care’,” Thierry Breton, European commissioner for the internal market, said in a tweet.
Europe Fit’s executive vice president for the digital age, Margaret Vestager, also confirmed in a tweet that a deal has been struck on the law.
