Islamabad. Pakistan’s Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid on Saturday revealed that even if the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan succeeds, he will remain in office until a new leader is sworn in. In a media briefing in Islamabad, he referred to Article 94 of the Constitution and said, “The President may ask the Prime Minister to remain in office until his successor enters the Prime Minister’s Office.”
Rashid said that the Constitution is silent on how long the process of electing the new leader of the lower house should take after the no-confidence motion is successful.
The opposition has moved a no-confidence motion against Khan in the National Assembly, which is likely to go to the polls on Sunday.
Rashid termed the no-confidence motion a “foreign conspiracy” and accused the opposition of being a part of it.
“He should be charged with sedition,” he demanded.
“I have also proposed three options to oppose the motion. First and foremost, the establishment should intervene and call for early elections immediately after Ramzan or Hajj,” Rasheed said.
According to the Dawn report, the minister said that the next option is that the three main parties – PML-N, PPP and JUI-F – have moved the proposal and investigation should be initiated against them.
Rashid’s third option is to advise PTI members: “Resign from all assemblies.”
He said that politics in the country is changing every moment, as he reiterated his support for Imran Khan.
