According to Union Home Minister Nityanand Rai, more than six lakh Indians have given up their citizenship in the last five years. On an average, 1.25 lakh people are giving up Indian citizenship every year since Modi’s arrival in 2014. Most of them are people of Gujarat. According to the data, the number of people giving up their citizenship every year since 2017 is 1,33,049 in 2017, 1,34,561 in 2018, 1,44,017 in 2019, 85,248 in 2020, 1,11,287 in 2021 till September 10.
According to statistics, most people gave up their Indian citizenship in 2019. About 40% of applications for renunciation of citizenship come from the United States, followed by Australia and Canada, which together have 30% of Indian nationals giving up their citizenship.
Let us tell you that under the Indian Citizenship Act, 1955, people of Indian origin are not allowed to hold dual citizenship. If a person has ever held an Indian passport and then obtained a passport from another country, he/she will have to surrender his/her Indian passport immediately after acquiring the nationality of the other country. After Indians renounce their citizenship, they have to apply for a surrender or renunciation certificate. After that, a stamp is put on their passport, stating that it has been revoked because of acquiring foreign citizenship. It should be noted that Indian passports containing only “Cancelled” stamp do not constitute relinquishment of their Indian citizenship.
Let us tell you that most of the Indians do this because they enjoy the privilege of using passports of other countries. According to the World Passport Index, India is ranked 69th in the Passport Power Rank. Compared to other countries – Australia is at 3rd position, USA is at 5th, Singapore at 6th and Canada at 7th. At the top is UAE at No. 1 and New Zealand at No. 2. The higher the Passport Index ranking, the better the chances of visa-free travel in multiple countries. They are also given exemption in immigration process which is beneficial for businessmen and industrialists. The number of people leaving citizenship in the US by 2020 is 6,705. There was a record increase in the number of people.
According to statistics, there has been a 150 percent increase in the number of people settling abroad from India between 1990 and 2017. After the money comes, not patriotism in the people, but love for the foreign country is awakened. As of 2020, about 20 million people of Indian origin are living abroad. The people of India are at the forefront of the world in the list of those who have left their beloved country. We rank first in the world in the list of expatriate countries. An analysis of IndiaSpend data from the United Nations Department of Economic Affairs said that nearly 7 million people of Indian origin emigrated abroad in 1990, rising to 17 million in 2017. Over the past 30 years, there was a 143 percent increase in the number of people of Indian origin settling abroad. In 27 years, India’s per capita income has increased by 522 percent. In which the income of the middle class and poor has decreased but the number of rich has increased. They are going abroad more. Every year 1.20 lakh politicians are elected in Gujarat. They also send their children abroad. Children of 50 percent of BJP leaders are studying abroad. They do not love the country but love money and happiness.
Significantly, the income of the rich in the country has increased from 1,134 to 7,055. Due to which people are going abroad for business, job or studies. According to a report by the Asian Development Bank, there has been a decline in the number of unskilled workers going abroad in recent times. In 2011, 637,000 artisans settled abroad. In 2017, this figure rose to 391,000. There is a fall in 2020. It literally means that since the coming of Modi’s capitalist government, artisans are not going abroad, but rich and educated people are leaving the country. In general, international migration is driven by economic leaders. People migrate internationally for employment due to low demand for labor in the local job market. Most skilled and unskilled workers have been transferred from India. According to the Economic Times, the number of people of Indian origin living in Qatar has increased by 82,669 percent. Earlier, 2,738 people were settled in Qatar. In 2017 this number reached 2.2 million. In 2021, it could exceed 2.5 million. From 1990 to 2017, the Indian-origin population increased by 688 percent in Oman and 622 percent in the United Arab Emirates. In Sweden, the Netherlands and Norway, there has been an increase in the number of Indians from 42 to 56 percent. Students and job seekers have started settling there due to cheap education and more job opportunities. Education in Germany is free and there are many job opportunities. That’s why people started going there.
About 30% of the people who migrate from Gujarat to different places every year are from Surat and 15% from Ahmedabad. The Suratis have the largest number of Gujaratis traveling abroad. Goes to 50 countries to study abroad. Out of which 80 percent live there. 51% of them prefer America. Every year 5 million students from all over the world go to study in other countries. 5% of India is going abroad. Of these, 85% like 6 countries. 17 percent goes to China. In 2005, 1.46 lakh students went abroad. Now this number has increased to 1.90 lakh. Students from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra go abroad for studies more than Gujarat. In 5 years 1.77 lakh students and 1.98 lakh people have gone abroad for employment. In which 41 thousand Gujaratis went abroad from Gujarat in 2018 and 48 thousand in 2019. In 5 years till March 2021, 1.99 lakh businessmen from Gujarat went abroad for jobs while 1.90 lakh people have gone abroad for studies in 5 years. Most of them are living abroad. Altogether 4 lakh Gujaratis have gone abroad in 5 years. At the same time, since Modi’s arrival in Gujarat from 2001 to 2021, 60 lakh Gujaratis have gone abroad, most of whom have stayed there. In the last 7 years since Modi became the Prime Minister, the number of citizens going abroad for studies and employment from Gujarat has been increasing continuously. In the first 5 years 1.77 lakh students have gone to USA, Canada, London, Australia and 1.98 lakh to study for employment. People from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh have settled abroad more than Gujarat.
