new Delhi. Three people have been arrested for running fake call centers that duped people on the pretext of increasing their credit card limits, an official said on Wednesday. The accused have been identified as Prateek (25), Kuldeep (26) and Saurav (27).
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Isha Pandey said a complaint was received on March 5 regarding credit card fraud, in which the complainant had alleged that a person pretended to be a bank employee on the pretext of increasing his credit card limit. 34,425 cheated.
Accordingly, the police registered a case under Section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code at Cyber Police Station and initiated investigation.
During the investigation, a police team scanned the call detail records of the mobile numbers of the suspects and the alleged bank account statements. After analysis, it was found that money was transferred to various bank accounts and cash was withdrawn from several ATMs.
After surveillance, a call center was identified in Uttam Nagar area and two fraudsters Prateek and Kuldeep were apprehended on the spot. On his behest, the third accused Saurav Mishra was arrested from his residence.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they used to send fake links to increase the credit card limit and made innocent people click on that link to collect their credential data. After this, after debiting the desired amount from the credit card of the people, the accused used to send it to the account of Sourav Mishra.
It may be noted that no previous involvement was found against any of the accused.
