Lucknow: Famous poet Munavwar Rana has passed away. He breathed his last in Lucknow at the age of 71. According to the information, he was ill for the last several days and was being treated in the ICU ward of Sanjay Gandhi PGI, Lucknow. Many of Rana’s works have been published in Hindi, Awadhi and Urdu languages. He has also been honored with the Sahitya Akademi Award. However, he returned the award alleging intolerance in the country.
My health had deteriorated in May last year also
In May last year too, his condition had worsened, after which he was kept on life support system in Apollo Hospital, Lucknow. At that time the poet had undergone gall bladder operation, after which his health deteriorated. Although he had recovered at that time. Recently, he was admitted to SGPGI after kidney related problems. Here he was admitted in the ICU ward. After which he breathed his last around 11:30 pm on Sunday night.
Was famous for his works written on mother
Famous poet Rana, a native of Rae Bareli district, was honored with the Sahitya Akademi Award in the year 2014. Poet Rana earned a lot of fame in the country and abroad with his works written on ‘Mother’. Poet Munawwar Rana was as famous as he was in controversies. Last year itself, he had compared the Valmiki community with the Taliban, after which there was an uproar. The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court had also refused to stay the arrest of poet Munawwar Rana in connection with the FIR lodged against him at Hazratganj Kotwali in this case.
