Russia started the war with air strikes. Airports, airstrips and military headquarters were destroyed by cruise and ballistic missiles. Martial law in Ukraine, orders civilians to enlist in the army
Ukrainian President Voldimir Zelensky has imposed martial law in the country. He ordered eligible civilians to join the army. National emergency has been imposed for 30 days. Military base and headquarters confirmed to be destroyed. It also raised fears that Russia might launch artillery and air strikes on its civilian areas. Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko has advised citizens to stay at home.
Russia claims to have shot down five jets and 1 helicopter
Ukraine claims it has shot down five Russian jets and one helicopter. However, these claims have not been confirmed yet. The Russian Defense Minister, on the other hand, said that they were not targeting civilian areas and cities. Missile attacks have also been carried out on military bases in Kiev, Kharkiv and Dnipro.
Ukraine’s demilitarization target, not occupation: Putin
Late last night, the Russian president said in a televised message to civilians that the attacks were necessary to protect citizens of eastern Ukraine. He accused the US and its allies of ignoring Russia’s interests and said Russia’s demands to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO and guarantee security were not met.
