New Delhi. Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni) is counted among the legendary players of Indian cricket. Apart from being a wicketkeeper batsman, he has also brought many successes to the Indian team as captain. Under his captaincy, he has made Team India the champion in 2007 T20 and 2011 ODI World Cup. Dhoni started his international career by playing ODI in Chittagong on 23 December 2004 and played his last international match against New Zealand (World Cup 2019) in Manchester on 9 July 2019. During this period of about 15 years, Indian cricket was completely ‘Dhonimay’.
As captain, Dhoni was known for bold decisions. His decision to give the last over to newcomer Joginder Sharma in the T20 World Cup final and to promote himself above Yuvraj Singh to bat in the World Cup 2011 final is considered a ‘master stroke’.
Dhoni played 90 Tests, 350 ODIs and 98 T20Is for India. He has 4876 runs in Test with the help of six centuries, 10773 runs in ODI with the help of 10 centuries and 1617 runs in T20. There is a strange coincidence regarding ‘Mahi’s first century in Test and ODI. He scored his first Test and ODI century in his 5th match against the same team. The interesting thing is that during the first Test and ODI century of both the formats, his score and sixes were also the same.

First ODI century against Pakistan in Visakhapatnam
Dhoni scored his first ODI century on 5 April 2005 against Pakistan (India Vs Pakistan) in Visakhapatnam. The next three matches were also not special for this wicketkeeper batsman who was out without scoring any runs in the first ODI and only the scores of 12, 7* and 3 runs were in his account. After this weak performance, he was in danger of being dropped from the team. However, Dhoni compensated for this weak performance in his 5th ODI and gave an indication of his explosive arrival in world cricket by playing an inning of 148 runs in 123 balls with the help of 15 fours and four sixes. The Indian team won the match by 58 runs.

First test century in Faisalabad, score also like Vizag
Dhoni’s first Test century also came against Pakistan in his 5th match. Mahi started his Test career on 2 December 2005 against Sri Lanka in Chennai. He played his fifth test against Pakistan in Faisalabad. In this match, which started from January 21, he scored only 148 runs in the first innings in 153 balls with the help of 19 fours and four sixes. This match, full of runs, was a draw and six centuries were scored in it. For Pakistan, Inzamam Ul Haq and Shahid Afridi scored centuries in the first innings and Younis Khan and Mohammad Yusuf scored centuries in the second innings, whereas in India’s first innings, apart from Dhoni, VVS Laxman scored centuries.

A coincidence related to making the World Cup champion
There is another coincidence associated with Dhoni, who made India the champion in the World Cup 2011. It is said that lady brings luck to any person. ‘Lady Luck’ has become synonymous with success for Ricky Ponting and Pat Cummins of Australia, Mahendra Singh Dhoni of India and Eoin Morgan of England. The very next year after the marriage of these four captains, their team became ODI World Cup champions.
Ponting married Riana in 2002 and the very next year in 2003, the Australian team became world champion under her captaincy. Under Ponting’s captaincy, Australia repeated this success by winning the World Cup in 2007 also. Similarly, Dhoni tied the knot with Sakshi Singh Rawat in 2010 and the next year in 2011, the Indian team became the world champion. Eoin Morgan, who married Tara Ridgway in 2018, succeeded in making England champion under his captaincy in 2019. The latest name added to this list is that of Australia’s current captain Pat Cummins. Cummins married long-time girlfriend Becky Boston in August 2022 and the following year in 2003, under his captaincy, the Australia team became world champion.
