New Delhi: Assam Police on Tuesday registered an FIR against former Congress President Rahul Gandhi and other party leaders for their involvement in violence. Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi is currently in Assam. The alleged incidents of violence took place when party supporters and leaders, while trying to enter Guwahati, broke barricades and clashed with police personnel.
The Chief Minister wrote on the social media platform A case has been registered against him under sections 120 (B) 143/147/188/283/353/332/333/427 of the Indian Penal Code read with section 3 of the PDPP Act.
Earlier, Sharma had directed the state Director General of Police to file a case against Rahul Gandhi for instigating the crowd to break the barricade. Earlier in the day, there was a clash between police and Congress workers in Guwahati, Assam during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was stopped from entering Guwahati during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, following which party workers started protesting and broke barricades and raised slogans.
Addressing party supporters on the outskirts of the city, Rahul Gandhi had said, ‘We have broken the barricades, but will not break the law. He called his workers and supporters ‘Babbar Sher’ “You should not think that we are weak. We have broken the barricades. They have canceled my program in the university. “My program was cancelled, but the students heard me outside.”
“Congress workers are not afraid of anyone,” he said, adding, “We will defeat the BJP in Assam and form the Congress government soon.” Rahul Gandhi further said, “We know that the police officers have done a good job and followed the orders, a person came and lay down in front of the (travel) bus. We are not against you. We are against the most corrupt Chief Minister. Our fight is with them.”
Police had to use force to stop Congress workers. They had put up barricades at two places to prevent the Yatra from entering the city limits. Earlier, when Gandhi tried to enter Guwahati, he was given a warm welcome and on the way he addressed some of the university students. Later he deviated from the prescribed route and proceeded on the Ring Road.
