A major incident of fire has come to light in Bangladesh. At least 40 people have died in this fire. Along with this 450 people are also reported to be injured. Many of which are in serious condition.
According to the information received, a fire broke out in the BM Container Depot located in Kadamrasul area of Sitakunda, Chittagong on Saturday night. In which dozens of people got trapped and lost their lives. A police officer posted at the Chattagram Medical College Hospital said- “So far 40 bodies have reached the morgue.”
According to the Dhaka Tribune, more than 450 people have been injured in the incident, out of which at least 350 are admitted to the CMCH. Local media reported that the fire spread to the entire depot after an explosion. Giving information about the matter, a police officer said that the fire started around 9 pm and the blast took place around midnight. The fire spread rapidly after the blast. It is being said that the explosion was so strong that even the windows of the houses in the neighborhood were broken.
Istakul Islam, head of the health and services department at Red Crescent Youth Chittagong, said more than 450 people were injured in the incident. The death toll may also increase. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has condoled the loss of lives and ordered all arrangements for the rescue operation.
An eyewitness told PTI over phone- “The depot was largely empty, firefighters, policemen and other rescuers rushed to the spot after the fire broke out”.
The fire is so fierce that 19 fire department vehicles are engaged in extinguishing it. Simultaneously, six ambulances have also been deployed so that the injured can get treatment at the earliest. Regarding the cause of the fire, it is being said that this fire has started due to some chemical.
