New Delhi. Dhananjay Singh, who has served as MP from Jaunpur seat of Uttar Pradesh, has suffered a big setback just before the Lok Sabha elections. The court has found him guilty in a case of kidnapping and extortion. Now, Jaunpur court is going to announce the punishment on Wednesday. At present Dhananjay Singh has been sent to jail. Former MP and JDU national general secretary Dhananjay Singh has been found guilty by the Jaunpur MP-MLA court in the case of extortion and kidnapping of Namami Gange engineer in the year 2020.
The incident took place on May 10, 2020, when Abhinav Singhal, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, had filed a case at the Line Bazar police station, in which he had accused Dhananjay Singh and his partner Vikram of kidnapping, extortion and other charges. He claimed that Vikram, along with two associates, abducted him at Singh’s residence, where Singh allegedly brandished a pistol and demanded substandard material from him and threatened him with dire consequences if he refused. On the basis of the complaint, the police have registered an FIR against the former MP. However, he later got bail from the court.
Meanwhile, Dhananjay Singh is preparing to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He has shared a poster on social media, the caption of which reads, “Friends! Get ready…the target is just one Lok Sabha 73, Jaunpur. He also wrote ‘Jaunpur will win – we will win’. Have shared your photo. However, it is not yet clear whether Dhananjay Singh will contest the elections independently or on the symbol of Nitish Kumar’s party JDU, but through this post he has made it clear that he is ready to leave his mark in the electoral field.
Dhananjay Singh, who became MLA for the first time in 2002 at the age of 27, contested the elections as an independent candidate. After winning, he was elected MLA in 2007 on Janata Dal (United) ticket. Later, he joined the Bahujan Samaj Party. He contested the 2009 Lok Sabha elections on a BSP ticket and won representing the Jaunpur Lok Sabha constituency. Dhananjay Singh has also contested the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on JDU ticket.
