Amravati. Four members of the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) were suspended from the Andhra Pradesh Assembly on Tuesday for the remainder of the budget session. Taking serious note of the unruly behavior of the MLAs, Speaker Tammineni Sitaram announced their suspension.
TDP members created ruckus in the House demanding a debate on the deaths due to illicit liquor in Jangareddygudem town of West Godavari district. As soon as the proceedings of the House began, the opposition MLAs were standing and insisting for a debate on the issue.
The Speaker rejected his notice of adjournment motion on the ground that last week Chief Minister Y.S. The issue was closed after Jagan Mohan Reddy made a statement clarifying the government’s stand.
However, TDP members alleged that the government was hiding the truth by terming alcohol-related deaths as normal deaths and demanded a debate on the issue. Even when the Question Hour started in the House, they came to the Well of the House and raised slogans.
The speaker allegedly warned some TDP members who blew the whistle. He said that he was defaming the House by his unruly behaviour. He named four members and announced their suspension for the rest of the ongoing session.
The suspended TDP MLAs later told the media that the government was trying to suppress the voice of the opposition by suspending them.
Meanwhile, TDP members in the Legislative Council also continued their protest demanding a debate on deaths due to illegal and cheap liquor. The House had to be adjourned due to opposition’s protest.
