World Water Day 2022: Half of our body is made up of water, which is essential for cell function and life. Every body cell in the body needs water to function properly. However, the problem arises when you drink too much water, which is called over-hydration. So know the side effects of drinking too much water and how much water should be drunk in a day.
Side Effect of Drinking Excessive water
1) Vomiting
The symptoms of overhydration can look like dehydration. When you have too much water in your body, the kidneys don’t remove as much fluid. It starts accumulating in the body, causing nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
2) Headache
Headaches can indicate both hydration and dehydration. Due to excess water in the body, the salt level in the body goes down and the cells swell. The swelling increases in size, and pressure builds up on the skull in the brain. This pressure causes a throbbing headache and can lead to trouble breathing.
3) Change in color of hands, feet and lips
When you are overhydrated, you may notice some swelling or color changes in your feet, hands, and lips. When the cells swell, the skin will also swell.
4) Cramp problem in weak muscles
Drinking too much water can cause your electrolyte levels to drop, which upsets your body’s balance. Low electrolyte levels in the body can cause muscle cramps.
5) exhaustion
Drinking too much water makes your kidneys work harder to remove the extra water. This creates a hormone response that makes you feel stressed and tired. If you can’t get out of bed after drinking a lot of water, it’s because your kidneys are overworking.
6) going to the bathroom too often
