Santiago. Left-leaning politician Gabriel Borik has been elected as the youngest ever president. With this, Gabriel is the youngest President to hold office for the term between 2022-2026.
Boric, an alumnus leader and a graduate in legal and social sciences from the University of Chile, took the oath on Friday during a ceremony at the national congress in Valparaíso, about 100 km from the capital Santiago, reported Xinhua news agency.
She told the new cabinet, “I am very proud of this cabinet because it has more women than men. Thank you for the feminist movement. We must never forget that we are indebted to the people of Chile every day.”
As the recipient of the largest presidential vote in Chilean history, Boric also made history by electing an unprecedented cabinet full of youth, feminists and environmentalists.
He took office amid the economic and health crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic and a historic constituent process in the South American country to replace the constitution, which is linked to the dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet.
