New Delhi. Indian team’s wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is going to return to the cricket field after a long time. Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar feels that he will find it very difficult to get back to his best flow at the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He believes that when he starts batting more and more, his knees will move better according to the match conditions.
Pant, who was badly injured in a car accident in December 2022, will return to competitive cricket after 14 months, for which the Delhi Capitals captain took part in a rigorous ‘rehabilitation’ program. Gavaskar told ‘Star Sports’, “This (return) will be very difficult. But the good thing is that he has played some cricket. He has done some practice. It will be a little difficult to bat fluently.
He said, “When you talk about a knee injury, the movement in the knee is affected. Wicketkeeping is also difficult but knee keeping is very important in batting. Therefore, it is possible that initially we may not get to see the same fluent batting of Rishabh Pant that we used to see.
Gavaskar admitted that Pant’s presence and his talkative nature kept him entertained, saying, “To have a wicketkeeper who keeps making witty comments from behind the stumps is complete entertainment. Because the job of the wicketkeeper is to distract the batsman by saying different things. But Pant has such an ability that whichever batsman he targets, he also laughs and enjoys but if his concentration gets distracted then it is beneficial for the team.
