The Indian market is rapidly becoming electrified, with most automakers gearing up to introduce electric vehicles. While the electric vehicle segment is known for high prices, the news is coming that the country’s largest automaker Tata Motors is preparing to introduce affordable electric cars in the market soon.
Tata Motors has become the fastest growing name in the EV segment, the Tata Nexon EV is the largest selling electric car in the country, and now the company is working on electric versions of its small SUVs Tata Punch, Altroz and Tiago as well. Tata Motors is looking to expand its electric vehicle plans as it plans to manufacture 50,000 zero-emission vehicles by the next financial year (April 2022 to March 2023 period). It aims to increase to 1,25,000-1,50,000 units per year over the next two years.

Tata is currently the best-selling passenger electric vehicle brand in the country courtesy the Nexon EV, while the updated Tigor EV based on Ziptron technology was introduced last year. Not long ago, Tata announced the setting up of a new standalone EV brand named (TPEML) with an investment of Rs 15,000 crore.
Under the new vertical, Tata will introduce 10 new electric vehicles over the next 5 years, which could include the return of the Nexon-based mid-size coupe and the Sierra. According to media reports, the company wants to launch an electric vehicle at a price of less than Rs 10 lakh. The company is also working on the new longer range version of the Tata Nexon as well as the Tiago Electric. It is being told that the new long range version of the Nexon will give a driving range of up to 400 km.
Apart from this, electric versions of the recently launched Tata Punch SUV and Altroz premium hatchback will also be launched in the market soon. Although no information has been officially shared about the driving range of these upcoming cars, but it is believed that due to the low price and small battery pack, these cars will give a driving range of up to 200Km.

To recall, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Unit and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited (TPEML) has confirmed that his brand will launch one or two products every year in different price brackets to match the long range Nexon. Some models can be launched in the price below and above, which will be seen in the coming years.
