New Delhi. Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) leader K. Kavita on Thursday approached the Delhi High Court for bail in a money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam. VRS leader K. Kavita is an accused in the Delhi liquor scam. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is investigating them for money laundering. Justice Swarnakanta Sharma will hear Kavita’s application on Friday, May 10.
On May 6, the Delhi-based subordinate court had rejected Kavita’s bail plea in the money laundering case. Challenging that order, the BRS leader has moved the Delhi High Court. The Avenue Court had also rejected Kavita’s bail plea in the corruption case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the scam.
It is noteworthy that on Tuesday, the court booked Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) Legislative Councilor (MLC) K. in the case of alleged money laundering related to liquor policy. Kavita’s judicial custody was extended till May 14. Telangana MLC Kavitha was produced in the court of special judge for CBI and ED cases Kaveri Baweja after the completion of her judicial custody.
During the hearing, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) told the court that the investigation is at an important stage and it can file a charge sheet against Kavita in a week. Special judge of CBI and ED court Kaveri Baweja, while rejecting the petitions, said that prima facie there appears to be sufficient material against the accused. The court said, ‘In view of the arguments, material on record and seriousness of the allegations against the accused, this court is not inclined to grant bail to the applicant at this stage.’
“Although the accused is not at risk of absconding, given her conduct in relation to witness intimidation and the apprehension that she, being an influential person, may try to influence other witnesses in the case,” the judge said. Yes, the accused does not deserve to be released at this stage. The application filed by lawyer Nitesh Rana claimed that there was no need for further investigation of the accused and no purpose would be served by keeping him in custody.
