New Delhi. Google has rolled out a new feature in Maps for users in India, the US, Japan and Indonesia that will give an advance estimate of toll charges on a given route. According to the company, the feature is available for ‘about 2000’ toll roads in the US, India, Japan and Indonesia for its iOS and Android apps and it plans to add more countries ‘soon’. Google in April announced the roll out of toll prices on Maps in India, the US, Japan and Indonesia that will help users choose between toll roads and regular roads. With this new update, users can now find out the estimated toll price to travel to their destination even before the start of the journey along with toll pricing information from the local tolling authorities.
Google said that the displayed toll price is based on reliable information gathered from local tolling authorities. The company further said, “Google Maps will estimate the total toll value for your destination based on factors such as the cost of using the toll pass or other payment methods, the day of the week, and the user expects the toll cost at the specified time. “
For those looking for alternative routes, Google Maps will continue to offer the option of a toll-free route, where available, with tolls and options. “If they want to avoid toll routes entirely, a simple tap on the three dots in the top right corner of Directions in Google Maps will allow users to select route options and avoid tolls,” the company said.
