The country’s Chief Justice NV Ramana on Friday condemned the tendency of the governments to malign the judiciary. The Chief Justice said that earlier attempts to accuse judges were made only by private parties, but recently the government has also joined in. This is unfortunate.
The Chief Justice said that this is a new trend where the government is defaming the judges. This is unfortunate and we are looking into it in court as well. Earlier only private parties had resorted to this, but we are seeing this everyday.
A bench headed by the Chief Justice was hearing a petition against an order of the Chhattisgarh High Court, which quashed the FIR against Aman Kumar Singh, a former principal secretary, under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The High Court had said in the order that the FIR has been filed on the basis of probability, on the basis of which no one can be prosecuted.
Anti-corruption activist’s senior advocate Siddharth Dave, who came to the court against the High Court’s order quashing the FIR, said that he has not defamed the judges. If there is such a tendency then it should be rejected. Ultimately, the court adjourned the matter to April 18.
