Summary
In an event organized on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Congress women legislators expressed concern over crime against women and accused the BJP government of increasing the number of such crimes under its rule.
A woman Congress MP in Gujarat on Tuesday said that in case of atrocities, women should come together without waiting for police help and set the culprit ablaze in public. At the same time, a fellow MLA of the Congress MLA suggested that the eyes of those who look at a woman with bad intentions and the rapists should be taken out.
Addressing a program of Congress Seva Dal in Gandhinagar on the occasion of International Women’s Day, MLA Jiniben Thakor said that women should not wait for police or anyone to help in case of atrocities against them. “50 women from the neighborhood should come along and sprinkle kerosene on the criminal and set him on fire,” he said.
Jiniben Thakor is a Congress MLA from Vav assembly constituency in Banaskantha district of Gujarat. In the same program, another Congress MLA Chandrikaben Baria said that the eyes of the rapists should be taken out. Chandrikaben, who represents Garbada assembly constituency, said, “I feel very sad to say that we have to compete with goons in this BJP government.”
Congress has leveled allegations of increasing crime against women
In BJP-ruled Gujarat, the Congress has been alleging that crimes against women have increased rapidly here. Recently, a woman going to college in Surat was murdered by a man in broad daylight. In a video of this incident, a large crowd is seen on the spot but no one was seen coming forward to save the woman. The Congress has also claimed that rape incidents have increased in the state.
