The Directorate of Intelligence Revenue (DRI) on Friday arrested three persons, including the managing director of a shipping company, in connection with illegal imports from Mundra Port. An official of the investigating agency informed on Saturday that foreign branded filter cigarettes worth about Rs 17 crore were imported.
DRI said in a statement that its Ahmedabad divisional unit on April 1 at Mundra port in Gujarat’s Kutch district seized a container containing 84 lakh cigarettes of foreign brand named ‘BBM Pride Filter Kings’ smuggled in.
The consignment of cigarettes worth Rs 16.8 crore market value was imported from UAE in a container declared as a cover of hotel supplies, bed sheets and pillows, the statement said. It was confiscated under the Customs Act, 1962.
Based on the probe conducted so far in this regard, the DRI arrested three persons on Friday, including the managing director of a shipping company at Gandhidham in Kutch district, a partner of a Dubai-based container line company and his associate from Bengaluru, the DRI said. Huh.
