New Delhi. An important hearing is to be held in the Supreme Court today on the issue of Gyanvapi Mosque. The Supreme Court is going to hear the petition of the Mosque Committee to ban the worship in the basement of Vyasji in Gyanvapi Mosque. The mosque committee had earlier approached the Allahabad High Court to stop the worship in the basement of Vyasji, but it did not get relief. Allahabad High Court had clearly refused to ban the worship in the basement of Vyasji located at Gyanvapi Masjid. The Gyanvapi Masjid Committee has challenged the decision of the Allahabad High Court in the Supreme Court.
The Hindu side has been claiming that before 1993, puja was held every day in the basement of Vyasji. The Hindu side has also been claiming that Ramcharitmanas is being recited in the basement. The Hindu side had applied to the District Judge of Varanasi for permission to perform puja again in the basement of Vyasji. On this, after seeing all the evidence, the District Judge of Varanasi had earlier handed over the basement of Vyasji located at Gyanvapi Masjid to the district administration on 17 January 2024. Then the District Judge had given approval for worship here again on 31 January 2024. The puja had started in Vyasji’s basement from the night of 31st January itself. Which the Muslim side has challenged in the court.
The Muslim side says that worship was never held in Vyasji’s basement. At the same time, the Hindu side has proved in the courts that worship continued in the basement of Vyasji. When Mulayam Singh Yadav was in power in UP, Gyanvapi Masjid was fenced. The puja had stopped due to this fencing. When the ASI survey of Gyanvapi Mosque was conducted, many idols were also found in the basement of Vyasji. Now everyone’s eyes are on what decision the Supreme Court takes in this matter.
