New Delhi. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said that due to two consecutive western disturbances and high moisture coming from the Arabian Sea, there is a possibility of moderate rain in the mountains and plains of northwest India this weekend. There is a possibility of rain and thundershowers in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and North West Uttar Pradesh between April 13 and 15. There is also a possibility of lightning, hailstorm and strong winds.
“An intense Western Disturbance in the form of a cyclonic circulation lies over West Iran in the form of mid and upper tropospheric westerlies and another cyclonic circulation in the form of mid tropospheric westerlies lies over 72 degrees east longitude,” the IMD said in a statement. It extends up to 32 degrees north latitude. There is a possibility of high moisture coming to northwest India from the Arabian Sea during April 13-15.

Rain on 13 to 15 April
It said that as a result, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, gusty winds and hailstorm are likely to occur over northwest India during April 13-15, the intensity of which may peak on Saturday and Sunday. IMD also issued a warning of damage to crops due to strong winds and injury to people and cattle present in the open due to hailstorm. He said that strong winds can damage the walls of kutcha houses and huts.
What did the Meteorological Department say to the farmers?
The weather department advised farmers in northwest India to harvest ripe crops, fruits and vegetables as soon as possible and keep the harvested produce in safe places or cover piles of harvested produce in the fields with tarpaulins. The weather office advised the farmers of Jammu and Kashmir to make necessary arrangements to drain excess water from the fields to avoid water logging.
