New Delhi: People are in bad condition due to the scorching heat in the country. In the month of April, the temperature reached 45 degrees Celsius at many places in South India. In most states the temperature is being recorded above 40 degrees. According to the Meteorological Department, the heat in the month of April broke the record of the last 100 years. The average minimum temperature in April in eastern and northeastern India was 22 degrees Celsius, the highest since 1901. The Meteorological Department said that the cyclonic storm was below average. Therefore, temperatures were relatively higher in East and North-East India.
Maximum temperature in April also broke record
India Meteorological Department (IMD) chief Mrityunjay Mohapatra said that the average maximum temperature in South Peninsular India in April was recorded at 31 degrees Celsius, which was the second highest since 1901. At the same time, in South Peninsular India, the maximum temperatures have been continuously above normal since the 1980s.
Heat wave lasted for the longest time in Odisha
The Meteorological Department said that since 2016, Odisha experienced the longest continuous heat wave of 16 days this April. Which is the longest such incident since 2016. The number of heat wave days in April reached a 15-year high in Gangetic West Bengal and a 9-year high in Odisha.
Forecast issued for heat wave in May
The Meteorological Department said that except parts of Northeast, North-West and Central India, maximum temperatures in May are likely to be above normal in most parts of the country. Heat wave is expected to continue for five to eight additional days in May in South Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, Gujarat.
Heat wave will last till May 4 in these states
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heat wave till May 4 in Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana and Interior Karnataka. Apart from this, there is an alert of severe heat in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
