Gopalganj. In Bihar, which has prohibition, liquor mafias are also getting punishment from the court. The court of Gopalganj’s ADJ-4 cum Excise Special Judge Shailendra Kumar Sharma has found the liquor mafia of Muzaffarpur guilty in a 15-month-old case of liquor recovery and has sentenced it to 13 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh. If you do not deposit the fine amount, you will have to undergo additional imprisonment of two years. After the sentencing, the police sent the liquor mafia to jail under tight security.
It is said that Inspector Awadhesh Kumar of Gopalpur police station, while taking action near Chandi Bridge on January 3, 2023, had recovered a pickup van laden with 545 liters of liquor. However, the smuggler escaped by dodging the police. The absconding smuggler was identified as Keshav Kumar of Neknama village under Sawaipati police station of Muzaffarpur district. Later the police arrested the smuggler from Muzaffarpur.
After hearing the arguments of prosecution Special Public Prosecutor Product Ravi Bhushan Srivastava and defense advocate Nikhil Singh, the court found the smuggler guilty and sentenced him. After being sentenced, he was sent to Mandal Jail Chanave to serve his sentence. SP Swarna Prabhat said that instructions have been given to all the police stations to submit charge sheets against the jailed liquor mafia on time, so that punishment can be given in the court through speedy trial.
