Indian captain Rohit Sharma heaped praise on former captain Virat Kohli ahead of the Mohali Test against Sri Lanka. This will be the 100th Test match of Kohli’s career. The hitman praised Virat and said that the credit for putting the team in good shape in this format goes to him. This will be Rohit’s first match as captain in Tests. He also revealed before the match which century of Kohli he liked the most.
Virat has scored 27 centuries in his Test career. According to Rohit, Virat’s century on the 2013 tour in South Africa was the most spectacular. The Indian captain said, “As a batsman, I remember his century against South Africa (in Johannesburg) in 2013. The pitch we played on was a challenging one. We had Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, Vernon Philander and Jacques Kallis in front of us. Just like the bowlers were. It was not easy to face them.”
Rohit said, ‘It was a fast bouncy pitch. We were all playing Test cricket in South Africa for the first time. He scored a century in the first innings and more than 90 runs in the second innings. For me that century is his best. Then there is Perth’s century in 2018, but South Africa’s in 2013 is better than Perth’s century.
Talk about that century of Johannesburg, the Indian team went there for the two-Test series. Kohli batted at the fourth order in that match. Both the openers of Team India had returned to the pavilion for 24 runs. After this, Virat took the front and faced the African bowlers firmly. He played a tremendous innings of 119 runs in 181 balls in front of bowlers like Dale Steyn, Vernon Philander, Morne Morkel, Jacques Kallis and Imran Tahir. He scored 96 runs in the second innings. Cheteshwar Pujara scored 153 runs in the second innings. The match ended in a draw.
