New Delhi. ED had arrested Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on March 21 in the money laundering case related to Delhi liquor scam. The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to CM Kejriwal to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections. The Chief Minister of Delhi is currently out of jail on bail. CM Kejriwal has challenged his arrest by ED in the Supreme Court. Hearing on this is going on in the apex court. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and Additional Solicitor General SV Raju appeared on behalf of ED. At the same time, senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi was appearing on behalf of CM Arvind Kejriwal. During this, SG Tushar Mehta raised some questions to which Singhvi answered in a straight and flat tone.
CA Arvind Kejriwal has challenged his arrest in the money laundering case in the Supreme Court. The bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta is hearing the case. The Supreme Court has granted bail to Arvind Kejriwal with conditions. SG Tushar Mehta, referring to a statement of Arvind Kejriwal during the debate in the apex court, said, Milord, how can this happen? In fact, the Chief Minister, while addressing his party officials and leaders, had asked them to press the broom button, so that they do not have to surrender on June 2. Tushar Mehta, who was arguing on behalf of ED, said that Arvind Kejriwal’s case is still pending in the court, in such a situation how can he say this? Tushar Mehta, citing Kejriwal’s statement, argued in the court, ‘He says that I have to go back to jail in 20 days. If you (voters) vote for the broom (election symbol of Aam Aadmi Party) then I will not go back to jail on June 2. How can this be possible?’
‘We have such facts, which will shake the court’, Abhishek Manu Singhvi’s argument, Supreme Court’s flat answer
Abhishek Manu Singhvi’s answer
The Supreme Court gave a blunt answer to the question raised by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta. CM Arvind Kejriwal’s lawyer Singhvi said, ‘He can also file an affidavit in the Supreme Court against the comments allegedly made by top ministers regarding interim bail.’ On Tushar Mehta’s allegations, Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that ED is trying to present biased facts against the Chief Minister. Arvind Kejriwal has challenged his arrest in the Supreme Court, which is currently being heard by a special bench of the apex court.
What did the Supreme Court say?
The Supreme Court also commented on the question raised by SG Tushar Mehta. Justice Sanjeev Khanna, who was part of the bench, said, ‘Our order is the order of the Supreme Court. It is governed by the rule of law. We specifically said that we are not making any exceptions for anyone. We felt that this (interim bail to Kejriwal) was justified, so we gave the order. Please allow us to confine ourselves to legal and lawful arguments and debates. On this, Tushar Mehta said that the Chief Minister should not have made such comments. I objected to his comment…that’s it.
