All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has raised serious questions on Delhi Police over the violence in Delhi’s Jahangir Puri area on Hanuman Jayanti. Referring to the statement of the Delhi Police Commissioner, Owaisi said – How was the C block in Jahangirpuri removed without permission? The yatra was taken out without permission and pistols and swords were waved in it. During this, the Delhi Police personnel kept watching as mute spectators? How did you allow the procession to go out without permission?
Talking to news agency ANI, Owaisi said – Why were the weapons displayed during the Shobha Yatra? Inflammatory slogans were raised during the visit. Why was there an attempt to hoist saffron flags? It is worth mentioning that Rakesh Asthana was asked whether the riot broke out in Jahangir Puri because some people tried to wave the saffron flag at the mosque? In response, Rakesh Asthana categorically rejected the incident of hoisting the saffron flag. He had said that no one tried to wave the saffron flag at the mosque during the Shobha Yatra.
Violent clashes broke out between two communities in Jahangir Puri during the procession on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti on Saturday. Police have arrested 23 people in this case. Among them are two minors. Two of the accused are in police custody while 12 have been sent to judicial custody. The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has constituted 14 teams to investigate the Jahangirpuri violence from every angle.
The police has also appealed to the people not to pay heed to any kind of rumor spreading on social media. Police Commissioner has said – We are keeping a close watch on social media. Legal action will be taken against whoever is seen spreading any kind of rumor on social media with the intention of inciting people by tweeting or fake news.
