The popularity of electric vehicles is increasing continuously in the Indian market. Due to the high price of petrol and diesel, most of the people are turning towards other fuel options. During this period, there has been a lot of growth in the sales of electric vehicles in the country, although Tata Motors is on the leading position in this segment, but recently, South Korea’s leading automaker Hyundai has also announced that, the company will enter the Indian market. Will introduce 6 new electric vehicles.
Since this announcement of Hyundai, the market of discussions in the electric vehicle market has become hot. Now news is coming that the company is working on the electric version of its cheapest compact SUV Hyundai Venue. However, no information has been shared by the company about this yet. At present, Kona is included in the company’s electric vehicle portfolio in the Indian market.
As Hyundai expects sales of electric vehicles to grow by 53 per cent by 2028, the company has revealed its plans to launch the journey of its widest range of electric vehicles. The project will include a total of 6 Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) which will be available in various body styles including sedans and SUVs.
Tarun Garg, Sales, Marketing and Service Director, Hyundai India, in his statement to the media had said, “The upcoming 6 electric cars may be SUVs, because when you look at the market trends, it is found that, the total number of electric cars in the market. SUV vehicles account for about 37 per cent of the sales, so it can become a very important part of the company’s plan.”
How will the new electric cars be:
The company has announced that the upcoming electric cars will be based on the E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform) architecture that will be used in future models of Hyundai, Kia and Genesis. The company has also confirmed that it will introduce electric versions of vehicles designed on the existing ICE platform.
This new platform has been developed on the 4 pillars of modularity, reliability, usability and performance. The modularity means that this single platform will be used for different body types. Offering the Gravity with ultra high strength steel and 8 point battery mounting features will be the reliability, while the flat floor and adjustable seating layout will provide better cabin space with sliding second row seats.
As far as performance is concerned, a battery pack of 77.4 kWh capacity can be given in it. Which not only gives a top speed of 260 kmph but will also provide better driving range. No technical information has been shared about the electric version of Hyundai Venue yet, but experts believe that after coming in the market, this SUV will directly compete with the Tata Nexon EV.
