Rajgarh. Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Saturday said that he is ready to contest the Lok Sabha elections against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi and former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan in Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh. Rajya Sabha member Singh (77) told reporters here, ‘I am ready to take on Narendra Modi and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, but the party has asked me to contest from here (Rajgarh), so I will contest from here. .’
His comment came a day after Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav raised questions. Yadav had said that despite being the Chief Minister for ten years (1993-2003), why is Digvijay not contesting elections from the state capital Bhopal? Prime Minister Modi has been the most popular face of the BJP, having led the party to victory in several elections, including the recent Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, while Chouhan enjoys overwhelming support among the public in the state.
While Modi represents Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency, Chauhan is a candidate from Vidisha this time. Yadav had also taunted Digvijay Singh that he had returned to Rajgarh after 30 years. Congress has not yet officially announced Digvijay Singh’s candidature for the parliamentary elections, but Digvijay Singh has claimed that the party has indicated that he may be fielded from Rajgarh seat, which he has represented twice. Have done.

The BJP won 28 of the 29 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state and the Congress got one seat. Singh was elected MP from Rajgarh in 1984 and 1991. After becoming the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh in 1993, the seat was held by his brother Laxman Singh from 1994 (by-election) to 2004. Laxman won the 2004 Lok Sabha elections from here on BJP ticket but Singh’s close aide Narayan Singh Amlabe defeated Laxman Singh in 2009. After this Laxman Singh came back to Congress.
In 2014, BJP’s Rodmal Nagar had defeated Amlabe in Rajgarh and this time the party has again made him its candidate. Digvijay and his son Jaivardhan Singh, who represent Raghogarh assembly seat, met party workers in Rajgarh constituency. Digvijay’s father Balbhadra Singh was the king of Raghogarh of the then Gwalior state. He was elected from there as an independent candidate in the 1951 Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections.
