On Thursday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also took a dig at Congress over the arrest of Gujarat Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani. Assam PCC chief Bhupen Bora claimed that no details of the FIR were given on the basis of which Mevani was arrested. He has been arrested only because he is a vocal critic of BJP and RSS. At the same time, Assam Congress spokesperson Manjit Mahanta told PTI that if Mevani is not released on bail, the Congress will hold protests across the state.

A case was registered against Gujarat’s Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani in Assam’s Kokrajhar district for making objectionable remarks on social media about PM Narendra Modi. After which a team of Assam Police arrested Mevani from Palanpur city of Gujarat at 11.30 pm on Wednesday. He was taken to Guwahati and then taken by road to Korjhar, where he was produced at the police station and his bail plea was arranged.
