New Delhi. The Additional Sessions Judge, Dhubri, Assam, has authorized the bench assistant of the court to file a complaint against a person for filing a false FIR under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO). The complainant had filed an FIR alleging that a man had raped her 16-year-old daughter, taken objectionable photographs of her and was blackmailing her through those photographs. After that the police arrested the accused in November 2023.
During the hearing, the complainant admitted before the judge that the accused had proposed to marry her daughter, due to which she got angry and lodged an FIR. He also expressed his desire to stop the judicial proceedings. Additional Sessions Judge Mamta Bhadani, serving as POCSO special judge, said on March 14 that since POCSO cases are dealt with seriousness and urgency, such frivolous actions cannot be tolerated.
