Although his parents said that he is a minor. Five days after the incident, police recovered Sohna from a house in the district following public outrage on social media. He was produced before a district court in Larkana on Friday. Sohna told the court that she was abducted and converted to Islam and now she wants to return to her parents. But the judge adjourned the hearing till June 12, saying Sohna was dying under pressure while giving her statement.
The accused used to teach tuition to Sohna
The court sent her to a women’s shelter home. Her mother Jamna Sharma told the media outside the court that her daughter was taking tuition at home and a few days back the teacher had told her that she needed a loan of Rs 100,000. Jamna said, ‘When my daughter told me about it, I told the teacher that she should not discuss such topics with Sohna. At that time the teacher left. But the next day he came with some men and took her at gunpoint. I kept pleading him to take money, jewelry and leave my daughter, but he did not listen to me.
Father said – the girl is 14 years old
Sohna’s father told the media that the documents produced by the accused to voluntarily convert to Islam and marry a Muslim man are fake. He said, “I don’t know how the government officials stamped such a document when the girl is only 14 years old.” Kidnapping and conversion of teenage girls has become a huge problem for Hindu families in the interior parts of Sindh.
