New Delhi/Mangaluru/Bengaluru/Amaravati/Thiruvananthapuram. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast heavy to very heavy rains in states like West Bengal to Odisha, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala amid the turmoil in the Bay of Bengal. IMD had issued this forecast for 19 and 20 July 2024. This prediction of meteorologists has proved to be true. Landslides have occurred due to torrential rains in Karnataka. Railway lines have been damaged due to heavy rains in Gujarat. On the other hand, the problems of common people have increased due to water entering residential areas. Life has also been affected by heavy rains in Andhra Pradesh. Monsoon rains have caused heavy devastation in Kerala. There has also been rain in Uttarakhand and Himachal. At the same time, rain is expected in Delhi NCR on Saturday.
Let us first talk about Karnataka. Due to continuous heavy rains in the coastal districts of the state, low-lying areas of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts have been submerged in water. The state government said that in view of the floods, Dakshina Kannada District Collector Mullai Muhilan visited the affected areas on Friday and took stock of the situation. Officials also visited the flood-affected low-lying areas in Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts and inspected the relief and rescue operations. In view of the torrential rains and flood situation in many areas of the coastal districts, instructions have been given to keep schools and colleges up to class XII closed on Saturday as well. A landslide occurred on NH-66 near Shirur village in Ankola taluk of Uttara Kannada district, due to which traffic had to be closed.
