The Modi government has approved the continuation of the scheme till 2025-26 under which funds will be provided for relief and rehabilitation of displaced families of victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, Sri Lankan Tamils. With a total outlay of Rs 1,452 crore, the scheme helps migrants who are suffering due to displacement. These schemes allow them to earn an income and facilitate their inclusion in mainstream economic activities. The Modi government has approved a proposal to continue seven existing sub-schemes under the scheme Migrants Relief and Rehabilitation for the period 2021-22 to 2025-26 with a total outlay of Rs 1,452 crore.
These victims will get relief from the scheme
The approval will ensure that assistance under the umbrella scheme continues to reach the beneficiaries through the Home Ministry headed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The government had launched different schemes at different times. These seven schemes provide relief to displaced families of PoK and Chhamb, Sri Lankan Tamil refugees, Bru refugees living in relief camps in Tripura and 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims. Financial assistance and other facilities will also be provided to victims of terrorism, extremism, communal, left-wing extremism violence and cross-border firing, civilians and victims’ families in IED blasts in Indian territory. Also, financial assistance will be given to the Central Tibetan Relief Committee (CTRC).
The government is also providing grants-in-aid to the West Bengal government for infrastructure development in 51 erstwhile Bangladeshi enclaves in India located in Cooch Behar district and rehabilitation of 922 returnees from erstwhile Indian enclaves in Bangladesh, the statement said.
