Islamabad. Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is facing criticism from opposition leaders and citizens on social media after Khan said that he did not enter politics to know or control the prices of potatoes and tomatoes. The Friday Times reported in a report that his remarks indicate that he is indifferent to people’s issues.
Leader of Opposition Shahbaz Sharif, in an official statement on PML-N Twitter handle, said that Imran Khan became the prime minister not to fix the prices of staple food items, but to “destroy the country and the people”. And their work is done. Then it is time for them to ‘go home’.
Noting that ever since Imran Khan took office, the value of the US dollar has risen from Rs 125 to Rs 180 against the local currency, Sharif said, “You have successfully destroyed this economy.”
Shahbaz said, “You actually joined politics to see the fall of Kashmir and stop the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects. You came to raise Pakistan’s ranking in the Global Corruption Index, you came for destruction.” You have come to anger Pakistan’s friends and you have come to hand over the economic sovereignty of Pakistan to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).”
Sharif’s rebuke comes after the opposition strengthened its support for a no-confidence motion to be held later this month.
Shahbaz concluded, “Imran sir, your work is done, now go home and let the country breathe a sigh of relief.”
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Sherry Rehman said, “We were always right. They have no idea what common man/women face, but worse, they feel it is not their problem or duty.” “
