new Delhi . The Center has allowed Sikhs working in the aviation sector to carry small-sized kirpans inside the airport premises. The kirpan (dagger) is considered a sacred object in Sikhism.
The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has amended its order issued on March 4 to remove the para prohibiting the entry of Sikh employees inside the airport carrying kirpans of specified size. The new order issued on March 12 has restored the situation before March 4.
By order, the length of the blade of the saber shall not exceed six inches and its total length shall not exceed nine inches.
The BCAS, in its earlier circular, had allowed Sikh passengers to carry ‘Kirpan’ of specified length with them on domestic flights.
