new Delhi. For the first time this year in central universities across the country, admissions for the new batch will be done through the Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET) under the NEP i.e. New Education Policy. According to the UGC, the process of admission to undergraduate courses under the Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET) will start from the first week of April. UGC says that these exams will be conducted in 13 different Indian languages. With the introduction of the process of Common Entrance Test for admission in universities, the marks scored in the 12th board examinations will no longer be of importance in this admission process.
Most of the universities across the country including DU, JNU, BHU are now opening. Physical classes have started here. According to the universities, this year the new batch of first year will also start on time.
In the year 2022-23, admission to graduation courses in almost all central universities will be done through the Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET). However, in the year 2022-23 also, admission to PG courses in many universities will be the same as before.
The Union Ministry of Education and University Grants Commission (UGC) has informed the Central Universities across the country regarding the Common Entrance Test. Following the official instructions from the UGC, universities have also started preparations for the Common Entrance Test. Several central universities, including Delhi University, have also made the Common Entrance Test mandatory for the academic session 2022-2023.
Central universities have also passed proposals in Academic Council and Executive Council of universities regarding common entrance test. According to leading educationist CS Kandpal, this is a new system which will be tested on the basis of experience, from now on it is not appropriate to comment on its merits and demerits. Educational institutions should see this as a positive change. This exam has been able to open new doors for many students. If there is any error in the conduct or process of these examinations in future, then there is scope to rectify it.
Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University will also get admission through the ‘Central University Common Entrance Test’ in the academic session starting in 2022-23.
It is worth noting that while the Delhi University will take admission in graduation courses through CUCET, there has been no change in the post graduate and PhD admission process so far. Admission will be done in PG and PhD as before. The DU administration has also confirmed this through an official notice.
Delhi University PG and PhD admissions are on the basis of entrance exam. In Delhi University, 50 percent seats are available to graduate students from DU in PG. However, this reservation is not there in PhD.
With this, DU has abolished MPhil from the new session. For this a resolution was passed in the Executive Council. There is also a provision to abolish MPhil in the new education policy.
