Imphal. The cycle of violence in Manipur is not stopping. In the violence that began on Saturday, 15 houses have now been torched and reduced to ashes in Imphal West district. The incident took place at Langol Games Village. According to the administration, a large mob of miscreants attacked the village and torched the houses of other communities. Security forces had to fire a large number of tear gas shells to drive away the miscreants from the scene. According to the administration, a 45-year-old man was also shot during the violence. He has a bullet wound in his thigh. The injured person has been admitted to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences. At present, the situation on the spot is being told under control.
Fresh incidents of violence were also reported in Chekone area of Imphal East district, officials said. A large commercial building in Checon became the target of a mob on Saturday. This building was also set on fire. Apart from this, three nearby houses were also set on fire by the mob. The incidents of violence took place during a 24-hour bandh called by the organizing committees of 27 assembly seats in Manipur. Normal life in Imphal Valley has also been thrown out of gear due to the bandh. Meanwhile, the Manipur Police has rubbished reports of thousands of arms and ammunition being looted from different police stations in the Valley region in the latest incidents. According to the police, incidents of arms being looted have happened in hilly areas as well as in the valley. According to the police, 1057 arms and 14201 cartridges have been recovered so far in the valley areas of Manipur. At the same time, 138 arms and 121 cartridges have been recovered from the hill districts.
Violence has been going on in Manipur since May 3 this year. The Kuki community protested against the Manipur High Court asking for reservation for the Meitei community. It was only after this that violence broke out between the Meitei and Kuki communities. 160 people have been killed during this violence. Whereas, around 1000 injured and 60000 people have been forced to flee.
