The Income Tax Department on Tuesday said it recently conducted a search and seizure operation at the premises of the Omaxe Group, which found evidence of “unaccounted” cash transactions worth over Rs 3,000 crore. Unaccounted cash worth over Rs 25 crore and jewelery worth Rs 5 crore were seized in the search operation. In addition, 11 lockers have been closed and are yet to be operationalised.
Searches were conducted at more than 45 places in Delhi-NCR, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Lucknow and Indore.
A large number of incriminating evidence including hard copies of documents and digital data have been found and seized during the searches.
The Income Tax Department said, “The seized evidence includes the group’s unaccounted ‘on-money’ cash receipt data from various clients for more than 10 years. Key employees and business heads of various projects questioned the group’s modus operandi. and admitted that the group took unaccounted cash from its customers but did not record the same in regular accounts.”
The department said that so far evidence of such ‘on-money’ receipts of over Rs 3,000 crore has been collected.
