The Union Commerce Ministry said that a meeting was held this week between Commerce Secretary BVR Subramaniam and Bangladesh’s Senior Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh regarding this issue. in which it has been agreed upon.
According to the statement of the Union Commerce Ministry, in the meeting the top officials of both the countries discussed the development of rail and port infrastructure, joint study of the Composite Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Not only this, during this extensive discussions were also held between Commerce Secretary BVR Subramaniam and Bangladesh Senior Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh on various issues of mutual interest including border haat, regional connectivity through multi-modal transport, mutually valid agreements.
According to the Union Commerce Ministry, Bangladesh is India’s sixth largest trading partner and bilateral trade between the two countries has seen a significant increase in recent years.
According to the Union Ministry of Commerce, a Detailed Project Proposal (DPP) has been approved for the development of a container handling facility at Sirajganj Bazar to facilitate railway trade between India and Bangladesh. Apart from this, a new siding line of 900 meters has been constructed at Benapole for the operation of goods trains between the two countries.
