On behalf of the opposition, Presidential candidate and former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha has once again targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party. Yashwant Sinha has termed NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu as a ‘rubber stamp’ candidate. Hitting out at the Modi government, Yashwant Sinha said that there is an undeclared emergency in the country and institutions have been weakened.
Yashwant Sinha was on a Gujarat tour on Friday and during this he met Congress leaders and MLAs and sought their support for himself. The former Union Minister said, “This fight has now turned into a big fight. This fight is about whether she (Draupadi Murmu) will use her powers to save the Constitution after becoming the President. It is clear that a ‘rubber stamp’ president would never try to do this.”
Yashwant Sinha, once a BJP stalwart himself, took a jibe at the BJP saying, “Today constitutional values and democratic institutions including the press are in danger. There is an undeclared emergency in the country at this time. LK Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee once fought against the Emergency (between 1975 and 1977) and went to jail for it. But today his own party (BJP) has imposed emergency in the country. It’s ironic.”
Yashwant Sinha also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not speaking about the recent events. He said, “Two murders took place. Everyone condemned it including me. But neither the PM nor the Home Minister uttered a word. He is silent as he wants to keep such issues alive to get votes.”
Let us inform that Draupadi Murmu has been made the presidential candidate from the NDA side. She comes from tribal society and has also been the governor of Jharkhand. His victory in the presidential election is also considered certain because apart from NDA, many parties have announced their support.
