On Teesta Setalvad Case, BJP’s national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia targeted the Congress fiercely. He said that the real face of Congress has come to the fore. They feel the pain of the victims, so that they earn money, they give false affidavits to implicate them.
Gaurav Bhatia said that Ahmedabad Crime Branch registered an FIR and a woman named Teesta Setalvad, who calls herself champion of human rights, her truth came out. Teesta Setalvad was only a small branch of spreading communal hatred, its headquarter was in the Congress party.
Bhatia said, “It is clear from the statements of one of his associates who were with Teesta Setalvad that these people are not fighting for justice for the families of the victims. Their target was to end the political innings of the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
The BJP spokesperson said that a landmark judgment was delivered by the Supreme Court on June 24, 2022, dismissing the petition submitted by Zakia Jafri. After this decision, some comments were made, which revealed the real character of some people sitting on the contract to protect human rights. He said that for the last two decades a political conspiracy and effort was being run against the most respected leader of the world, Narendra Modi. Taking cognizance of this, the Supreme Court took this remark.
The BJP spokesperson said that the faith of Rahul Gandhi and Congress in the Supreme Court is also according to convenience. When this decision came, Congress retweeted a tweet by Jairam Ramesh that “The Supreme Court’s decision in the Zakia Jafri case is extremely disappointing”.
The Supreme Court in its order on Friday (June 24, 2022) dismissed a petition challenging the clean chit given by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the then Gujarat Chief Minister Modi and others in the 2002 Godhra riots case. Setalvad’s non-governmental organization (NGO) had supported Zakia Jafri, who had filed a petition during their legal battle alleging a larger conspiracy behind the riots. Zakia’s husband and former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri was killed during the riots.
Who is Teesta Setalvad?
Setalvad was born on 9 February 1962 in Mumbai. She belongs to a Gujarati family. Her father, Atul Setalvad, is a lawyer and her mother’s name is Sita Setalvad. His grandfather, MC Setalvad, was the first Attorney General of India. Setalvad is married to journalist turned minority rights activist Javed Anand.
