The Bombay High Court made important remarks on Friday regarding the education of women and their jobs. The court said that a woman being educated cannot be compelled to work for a living. The High Court made this observation while hearing a petition filed by a person against an order of the lower court.
The court directed the man to pay maintenance to his wife. The matter was heard by a single bench of Justice Bharati Dangre. Let us tell you that the order of the Family Court in Pune was challenged by a person. The person appealed that the decision of the Family Court be reviewed.
During the hearing of the matter on Friday, the Bombay High Court said that a woman, whether educated or not, has the option of working or staying at home. The judge said that our society has not yet accepted that the women of the house should contribute financially.
The judge said it was for the woman to act on her choice. He has to work, it cannot be forced because he is a graduate. Even after graduation, she can sit at home as per her wish.
Justice Dangre said that today I am the judge of this court, but if tomorrow I sit at home, would you say that I should not sit at home because I am eligible to be a judge. The counsel appearing for the person who filed the petition told the court that the family court had “wrongly” directed his client to pay maintenance as his estranged wife is a graduate and able to work.
What is the matter: In fact, the family court had directed the man to pay Rs 5,000 per month to his estranged wife and Rs 7,000 for the maintenance of his thirteen-year-old daughter. Against this decision, the person filed a petition in the High Court. The High Court will hear the matter further next week. Let us inform that in April 2013, the woman had filed a case against her husband and his family under the Domestic Violence Act.
