According to the report, while corona was the fourth biggest cause of death in the country in the year 2020, it was the second biggest reason in seven states. In which 17.7 percent in Maharashtra, 15.7 percent in Manipur, 15 percent in Uttar Pradesh, 13.5 percent in Himachal Pradesh, 12 percent in Andhra Pradesh, 11.9 percent in Punjab and 7.6 percent in Jharkhand were due to corona epidemic.
State of the state due to corona – In 2020, Maharashtra (61,212) had the highest number of deaths due to corona. It was followed by Uttar Pradesh (16,489), Karnataka (15,476), Andhra Pradesh (12,193) and Delhi (8,744). Only one State – Arunachal Pradesh – and one Union Territory – Lakshadweep have not reported any medically certified COVID deaths during 2020.
Leading causes of medically proven deaths in 2020
Diseases affecting the body’s circulatory system accounted for 32.1 percent, 10 percent of deaths related to the respiratory system, 8.9 percent due to corona epidemic, 7.1 percent due to other infectious diseases, 5.8 percent due to diseases like high blood pressure, diabetes . Apart from this, 5.6% of deaths occurred due to injury, poisoning, and other external causes. At the same time, 11.3 percent of the deaths were due to other factors.
According to the report, ‘diseases affecting the body’s circulatory system’ are the single biggest cause of death at the national level. Which was 32.1 percent of all medically certified deaths.
In the report, the number of medically certified Covid deaths in 2020 (1,60,618) is higher than the officially given Union Health Ministry’s 2020 figures (1,48,994). According to the data of the Union Health Ministry, 5 lakh 24 thousand 507 deaths were registered due to corona in India till 25 May 2022 from the beginning of the corona epidemic.
At the same time, out of 1,60,618 deaths due to this epidemic in 2020, the COVID-19 virus was identified in 1,38,713 cases, while it was not confirmed in 21,905 cases.
