The central government has reduced the excise duty on petrol and diesel. From then on the oil prices will come down. Now the Modi government and BJP are also appealing to the states to reduce the tax. BJP national president JP Nadda has appealed to non-BJP governments to reduce VAT on oil. While citing the constraints, TMC leader Saugata Roy said that the central government can reduce the excise duty more now.
JP Nadda- BJP President JP Nadda said in a statement that there is a demand of the Bharatiya Janata Party that the opposition should also reduce the prices of petrol and diesel in their ruled states, so that the common people can get some more relief amid inflation. Nadda also thanked PM Modi for reducing oil prices.
Saugata Roy- TMC MP Saugata Roy said the Centre’s cut is not good enough as the Center has recently increased the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 10. The central government still has the possibility of reducing the excise duty instead of pressurizing the states because the economic condition of the states is bad.
Kerala Announcement- After the Centre, the Kerala government has also taken a decision to give relief to the people. Kerala Finance Minister KN Balagopal has said that the Kerala government will cut the tax on petrol and diesel by Rs 2.41 and Rs 1.36 respectively.
What PM Modi said – Regarding the decision to reduce tax on oil, PM Modi said that people are always first for us! He said- “Today’s decisions, especially the cut in petrol and diesel prices, will have a positive impact on various sectors. It will provide relief to our citizens and advance ‘ease of living'”.
At the same time, NCP chief Sharad Pawar said that it is better than nothing. Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has said that the reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel by the central government is not enough. He said- “Two months back the excise duty on petrol was increased by Rs 18.42 per liter and today it has been reduced by Rs 8, while on diesel it has been increased by Rs 18.24 per liter and now it has been reduced by Rs 6 Has been done. Taking huge hikes and then cutting minimum is not good”.
