US President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks through video conferencing on Monday. During this, PM Modi said on the war between Russia and Ukraine that the US and India will continue their important consultations on how to manage and stabilize the effects of the Russo-Ukraine war.
PM Modi said, “I spoke to the Presidents of both Ukraine and Russia several times over the phone. Not only did I request peace from him, but I also suggested President Vladimir Putin to hold direct talks with the President of Ukraine. PM Modi said that the subject of Ukraine has been discussed in great detail in our Parliament as well.
PM Modi said, “Recently the news of killings of innocent civilians in Bucha city was very worrying. We have condemned it and have also demanded a fair investigation. We hope that the ongoing talks between Russia and Ukraine will lead to a way of peace.” Expressing concern over the situation in Ukraine, PM Modi said, ‘Our talks today are taking place at a time when the situation in Ukraine remains very worrying.
US President Joe Biden told PM Modi in a conversation through video conferencing that I welcome India’s humanitarian assistance to the people of Ukraine who are victims of the horrific attack. Biden said that how to prevent and stabilize the effects of the Russian war, the US and India will see it together in consultation.
PM Modi said that when I came to Washington in September last year, you had said that India-US partnership can contribute to solving many global problems and I completely agree with you.
PM Modi said, “This year India is celebrating 75th anniversary of its independence and we are also celebrating 75th anniversary of our diplomatic relations. I am confident that our friendship with the US will continue to be an integral part of India’s development journey for the next 25 years.”
Praising PM Modi, the US President said, “Prime Minister Modi is always a pleasure to meet you. Your two ministers and ambassadors are here. We are working together on global crises, covid pandemic, challenges in the health sector. We have strong partners in the defense sector.”
In response, PM Modi said, “I thank you for your warm words. Today our Defense and Foreign Ministers will meet in 2+2 format after sometime, before that our meeting is important to give direction to their talks. I congratulate you for taking the initiative of this virtual meeting.
Let us inform that this meeting between PM Modi and US President Biden has taken place before the fourth session of ‘2+2’ Ministerial Dialogue between the Defense and Foreign Ministers of both countries.
