Congress President Sonia Gandhi and MP Rahul Gandhi have been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning. Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi have been summoned by the ED to appear on June 8 in the money laundering case related to the National Herald. At the same time, after the summons was sent by the ED, Congress leader and senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi has targeted the central government and said that we are not going to bow down.
Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi confirmed in a press conference today that Sonia Gandhi would appear on the relevant date, if required, but the party would write to the investigating agency seeking a separate date for Rahul Gandhi as he has gone abroad now and If he comes, he will appear on the same date. Abhishek Manu Sanghvi also said that there is no evidence of money laundering or any money exchange. Singhvi said that the government has become blind in the spirit of revenge. This is being done to scare us. But we will neither be afraid nor bow down.
On the other hand, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala has targeted the central government. He said, “In order to uproot the British rule, the Indian National Congress brought out the National Herald newspaper in the year 1937. The British felt so much danger from this newspaper that they banned the National Herald in 1942 during the Quit India Movement. Today again a hideous conspiracy is being hatched to suppress this voice of freedom movement, whose head is Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself and his weapon is ED.
Randeep Singh Surjewala targeted PM Modi without naming and said that a cowardly conspiracy is being hatched against the Congress. It is clear that the “tyrant” got scared, he said.
The case was registered recently in connection with the probe into alleged financial irregularities in Congress-aided ‘Young Indian’. The newspaper National Herald is a part of Young Indian Pvt Ltd. Abhishek Singhvi said that in 2015, the ED had closed the investigation in the National Herald case. But then the government did not like it and the concerned ED officials were removed. The government brought in new officers and they have reopened the matter.
